“I am a PROUD Pornographer”

For being the primary vessels of meaning in our global culture, inventions in their own right, and subject to the influences of use at a given moment, in a given place…

WORDS…

…have enormous POWER to shape reality.

They can be used to define sharply, to render ambivalent an existing line, and, via the alchemy of connotation, to transform a demon into an angel, to reverse obscurity, and… occasionally…

…to make a fresh start.

I’d like us all to get to work on “pornography” ASAP.

Here, I’ll go first: “beautiful”…

“Beautiful” is a good word for pornography, j-baby. Let me offer another word, if you don’t mind.

    “Misunderstood”

Contradictory. For example, how do we expect people to agree on what is PORN and what is not PORN, and still preserve the personal subjectivity that guides our preferences? As soon as people get offended by something, it gets re-classified (in their minds) into a condemnable category. I am hoping that by making this a quality site, to which people will want to return, and by putting all different kinds of “porn” close together, that folks will ease up a bit on the all-too-common “That’s bad!” reaction when you see something outside your own tastes — :)
